Cirencester Town Council 2024 Big Lunch event launched

Cirencester Town Council is delighted to share its plans for this year’s summer community event, The Big Lunch, which will be taking place on Sunday 16th June 2024 in the Abbey Grounds. There’s no fee to enter and everyone’s invited to come along!

Held as part of the Eden Project’s UK wide initiative, The Big Lunch, which is the UK’s annual get-together, encouraging people to come together for a few hours of friendship, food and fun. It connects people and encourages friendlier, safer communities where people start to share more – conversations, ideas, skills, resources and friendship. This year, The Eden Project hope to make this year’s Big Lunch the greenest yet.

Cirencester’s event will follow the theme whilst acknowledging the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings with a modern take of wartime slogans such as “Dig for Victory” and “Make Do and Mend,” The day will focus on ways to become more sustainable whilst giving the opportunity to celebrate our heritage and history.

With the feel of a traditional village fete, there will be a variety of activities, games and entertainment, including a climbing wall sponsored by Lit Fibre, Chloe’s Farm and a silent disco. There will also be an artisan market, traditional beer tent, live performances from local musicians from the bandstand, and food and drink stalls; people are also encouraged to bring their own food and picnics to share with friends.

Many of our local groups, charities and organisations will be on hand to provide information and to share ways to apply self-sufficiency principles; encouraging more sustainable behaviours like ‘Grow your Own’ and ‘Repair, Reuse, Repurpose & Recycle’.

Mayor of Cirencester, Cllr Sabrina Dixon says “We hope to bring the town together to share food and fun together in an act of community and friendship at The ‘Greener’ Big Lunch. Last year’s event was a huge success and we’re looking forward to doing it all again this year.”
