Kingshill Lane Sports Development Site
The Town Council has carried out a study of existing sports facilities in and around Cirencester with a view to the development of its Kingshill Lane Sports Development Site. Ideas on how the sports and community facility at Kingshill could be developed was sought from local clubs and organisations, along with local authorities, sport governing bodies and Members of Parliament serving this area.
Following the appointment of 'Sports Solutions GB Ltd' to conduct a supply/demand analysis, consultation, sports development plan, grant funding review, business planning, capital costs and indicative scheme drawings, the report on their findings is now complete. Their recommendations were thoroughly examined by the Council with a view to progressing the next phase of the development.
The Development Plan and Feasibility Study are now available and at its meeting on 8th September 2009, Council Resolved that subject to both internal and external funding and planning permission being obtained, a phased approach be adopted in developing the sports and community facility at Kingshill as follows:
Phase 1 - to deliver a trim trail, bmx facility, skate plaza and three junior/mini grassed pitches with work commencing Summer 2010.
Phase 2 - on a date to be confirmed, to deliver an extension to the existing pavilion, a new build community facility, play areas for children and a floodlit all weather pitch.
The Council looks forward to the next stage in the development of the site and welcomes any comments you may have on its plans.
Recreation Facilities
As will be appreciated from the foregoing information, the Town Council is determined
to provide facilities for a wide age group within the town.
These amenities range from the provision of allotments through to pleasure parks
and defined areas for activity such as play grounds and sports pitches.
In providing such facilities, the Council is pursuing a policy to make opportunities
available to all levels of ability and all ages.
Abbey Grounds Play Area
As part of its policy, the Council has recently refurbished the play area in the Abbey Grounds at a cost of £94,000 following consultation with the local community on the equipment and layout (detailed in the plan below).
Two Acres Playing Field
The Council has also provided a Teen Shelter and two multi goals in the Two Acres Playing Field in the Chesterton area of the town.
The shelter is the 'state of the art' version with solar powered radio, lighting and Bluetooth connection.
This provision was partially funded by a successful bid to the Big Lottery Fund in partnership with Cotswold District Council.
The Council is delighted that both schemes have proved to be a great success and are well-used by a wide range of age groups.
