Cirencester Charter Market
The Cirencester Charter Market is held in the Market Place on Monday and Friday of each week. It is one of the oldest charter markets in the country and was mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1086. The market is run by Cirencester Town Council, which continues to actively promote it as one of the key economic and tourism features of our thriving market town.
Cirencester has been the centre of trade for centuries.
Whilst many markets have disappeared, the Town Council is in a position where it is still able to provide a Charter Market on both Mondays and Fridays (9.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m.).
Produce includes flowers and plants, organic vintage cheese, fish (including Manx Kippers, Arbroath Smokies and fresh peeled shrimps), olives, fruit and vegetables, gifts, clothing, antiques, pet food and much more.
Walk through one day and see for yourself what's on offer and help us to support this valuable and historic tradition.

Calling all traders and local businesses:
Have you ever considered trading on the market or even promoting your local business, organisation or charity from one of our stalls? Prices for a single stall start from £10.00 per day which provides excellent value for money in such tough economic times.
There are currently stalls available on the Monday market and are particularly seeking traders in Ladies & Gents Fashions, Children’s Fashions, Bedding and Towels, Pet Supplies and Swag.
Please join us as we seek to boost the Charter Market and promote the town, not just as a place for tourists to visit but as a day to day shopping destination.

Celebrating Gloucestershire through Cirencester's Charter Market:
Mark House of Taynton Farm which is near Newent in Gloucestershire has been trading on the market since 1999. Mark’s claim to fame amongst his fellow traders is on the occasions that Princess Anne has bought cheese from his stall he has always been somewhere else within the market!
Mark has a very wide selection of cheese from ‘Ceri’s’ Garlic and Pepper cheese (which is produced locally at Brinkworth) to Northumberland Reiver with every popular cheese in between. If Mark doesn’t carry the cheese you want - and there is no reason why he shouldn’t – he carries +70 varieties- he will try his very best to source it for you. Mark also sells free range eggs which are sourced from a neighbouring farm and cakes that are baked at the Taynton farm’s bakery.
Myles Salmon of Langley House, Winchcombe, Cheltenham has been trading on the market since 2005. All food is sourced locally and includes dry cured and honey roast ham, finest award winning sausages, bacon, meat pies, and scotch eggs from the handmade scotch eggs company.
